Reference photo (Tier B)
Reference-scale photo measurement
One pole photo, a user-placed reference of known length (any feet or inches), and 2D pixel scaling for heights and clearances.
What you do
- Take or upload one pole photo.
- Set a reference of known length (any feet or inches). For most accuracy, use a measure stick to measure the first attachment on the pole, enter that length as your reference, and mark the bottom and top of that same segment in the photo.
- Mark pole base and top along the same vertical line.
- Mark attachment heights; the app scales pixels using your reference.
- Optionally capture GIS location and front/side lean photos for notes.
What we compute
- Pole height and attachment heights from 2D pixel scaling on the main photo.
- NESC-style clearance checks against your marked heights.
- Annotated export PNG and GeoJSON with method tier and disclaimer.
What we do not do
This is intentionally different from laser survey tools and multi-photo field capture apps:
- Multi-station or overlapping-image photogrammetry
- Laser range finding or depth sensors in the capture flow
- Automatic pole segmentation or ML height-from-mask inference
- Parametric cursors or epipolar geometry between two capture locations
Pole lean photos
Front and side lean captures are documentation only. Heights and clearances always come from the main photo and your marked reference — never from lean geometry.
